Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager will oversee financial operations of a dynamic government contracting organization operating across multiple U.S. states and internationally in two countries. This position ensures compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements, implements and enforces accounting policies and controls, and provides financial insights to support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in government contracting, multi-state and international financial management, and compliance with regulations such as FAR/DFARS, CAS, and GAAP.

Role & Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze accurate and timely financial statements, budgets, and forecasts for domestic and international operations.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable international accounting standards.

Government Contract Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with government contracting regulations, including FAR/DFARS, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and DCAA audit requirements.
  • Maintain indirect cost pools, allocation methodologies, and pricing strategies for government contracts.
  • Support proposal pricing and provide oversight on contract cost tracking and reporting.

Multi-State & International Operations

  • Manage financial operations in multiple U.S. states, addressing state-specific tax, reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee international financial operations, ensuring compliance with local regulations, tax laws, and reporting standards.
  • Manage currency exchange considerations and consolidate financial statements across entities.

Internal Controls & Audit

  • Develop, implement, and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Lead external audits, including financial, tax, and DCAA audits, and resolve any audit findings.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX requirements, if applicable.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting and finance professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-department collaboration.
  • Evaluate and implement accounting software and tools to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.

Strategic Financial Planning

  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CFO and executive leadership team.
  • Support strategic initiatives such as mergers, acquisitions, and international expansion.
  • Monitor financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred

Certification:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required

Experience:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a government contracting environment
  • Strong knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Deltek, Costpoint, or Unanet) and advanced Excel skills
  • Familiarity with project-based accounting and indirect cost rate structures

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team in a fast-paced environment
